Grade 12 Graduation

The Eliza Van Bibber School Class of 2021 is graduating on Friday June 4th. We are following COVID-19 guidelines and protocols for this ceremony. This event is invite only for this year. We know you may want to join the Grads in their celebration. So we can all celebrate, we will be having a Class of 2021 Graduation parade starting at 5:30pm at the school. We will follow the same route as last year going from the town side to Jon Ra and then Willow Creek (parade route can be viewed on the school website: evb.yukonschools.ca). Come out to the end of the driveway or road and make some noise as we celebrate the grads!  If you would like to give a card or gift to the grads you can drop it off at the school or hand it to a member of the parade group.

Government of Yukon offering support to families impacted by COVID-19

Families with children in Kindergarten to Grade 12 who have been impacted by COVID-19 are eligible for $250 per student from the Government of Yukon.

Face-to-face classes are suspended for the remainder of the 2019–20 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students are learning from home with support and guidance from teachers and school staff. This funding will help to offset costs for Yukon families with children learning from home during this time.

The primary caregiver for a family should apply for the funding through Sport Yukon, who will issue the funding on behalf of the Department of Education. To apply, please visit: sportyukon.com/events-page/news. You can also contact Sport Yukon at 867-668-4236 or info@sportyukon.com for support. Apply by June 12, 2020.

We recognize that many students and families have been impacted by COVID-19 and are facing different challenges as they learn and work from home during this pandemic. We are offering this funding directly to families, who are in the best position to determine their needs and supports as students continue learning and developing skills from home during this unprecedented time.
Minister of Education Tracy-Anne McPhee

Supporting Learning From Home

Supporting learning from home will start on April 16, 2020. Please read the letter contained in the file below. Of note, is starting April 16th, student work packages will be delivered to your house. It is our mission to continue to meet the goals and objectives established for the Yukon education system. There will be 3 more deliveries of learning packages every two weeks: April 30th, May 14th and May 28th. These 4 packages will be used to provide learning opportunities until the end of the school year on June 12th. Students with special programming will have their individual goals reflected in their learning packages. At the end of the year a final report card will be created for each student reflecting individual progress in all learning covered this school year. More details will be contained in letters from teachers in the work packages sent home including how this work will be assessed.

Monday April 20th Message

Welcome to the Eliza Van Bibber School Website for the 2019-2020 school year. We have continued a lot of positive changes within our programming at EVBS this year. Our changes include a new high school schedule, more elective credit options, technology integration, revised student support systems, music programming, a school wide reading block,  initiation of self-regulation supports, and ongoing cultural learning.

EVBS offers a comprehensive K-12 program, with an overall student enrollment of 66. We also offer a Learning Together program for two and a half hours, in the morning. We have a staff of 20 with the inclusion of 3 valued staff members employed by Selkirk First Nation, within the school.

As a school we are focused on the development of the whole student for each of our students. Moreover, this year we have all geared our academic focus towards Non-Fiction writing skills. We will be doing school wide monthly assessments to direct our teaching and learning. It is a journey that we are all excited to be on. This will also allow us to bring in more of our Northern Tutchone knowledge, teachings, and culture into our classrooms.

Student Transcript Issue

The Department of Education has released a notice on the BC Ministry of Education's student transcript issue. The BC Ministry of Education has indicated that the issue has now been resolved and updated grade results are accurate.

Valued

We view ourselves as a strong and healthy school community and we attribute this to four main factors: a caring and committed staff, a very supportive Chief and Council, an interested and involved parent community, and an outstanding student population
